How to Support the Diabetes Community During COVID-19
With the spread of the Coronavirus and its effect on the economy, those who already faced hardships in affording the most basic items, are now up against even more of a battle. During this time of uncertainty, job loss, and shifts in workplaces, people living with Diabetes are more likely to be left without health insurance, struggling financially, and in need of the most basic supplies to care for themselves. The homeless and low income Diabetes population needs our help now more than ever.
The Chris Dudley Foundation created the Test don't Guess outreach program, providing basic Diabetes supplies to those living in poverty and homelessness with Diabetes since 2017. Did you know that families living below the poverty line struggle to access even a simple blood glucose meter and test strips?
Working with our partner, Wallace Medical Concern, patients in need receive a kit including supplies such as glucometers, test strips, and tools to keep their practices sanitary. Doctors and facilitators are able to aid in ensuring that patients know how to use the tools they are given to enable them to live healthier with Diabetes.
