Camps for Kid with Diabetes

Camps for kids with diabetes between the ages of 10 and 17 are among the variety of programs and services offered by the Chris Dudley Foundation. The goal of these camps (and for the clinics, as well) is to give kids a sense of how to play a vigorous sport while controlling their diabetes.

What is the camp like?
At camp, campers also enjoy taking a dip in the pool and entering the Splash Contest, playing a friendly game of volleyball, throwing horseshoes, taking a slide down the infamous slip 'n slide, putting together an act for the yearly talent show, checking out the cool gear in the camp store, and building friendships with other kids with diabetes, that will last a lifetime.
Every year kids with diabetes from all over the country ages 10-17 travel to Vernonia Oregon to the Chris Dudley Basketball Camp to participate in this one week experience of a lifetime. Each day camp is filled with practicing basketball skills, intense basketball tournaments, fun contests and games, working one-on-one with one of our 25 experienced coaches and counselors and learning new ways to improve your game from Chris Dudley himself.
Other Facts about Camp:
- We have doctors, nurses, dietitians and over 25 other trained staff members to help with camper's diabetic needs.
- Campers stay in bunk houses.
- With camp being limited to only 75 campers, campers receive a lot of individual attention on the courts.
- Each camper is assigned to a team for the week, with a coach and a counselor.
- We have been honored to have many guests come to camp such as Bob Medina, Trainer for the Portland Trailblazers. Terry Porter, former NBA player. Dr. Matt Corcoran from diabetes training, Herb Brown, assistant coach in the NBA, Jeff Bannink from Team Type 1.

Please note
Parents or guardians of participants in camps must accompany their campers during check-in and check-out, so they can meet with the medical staff. No exceptions, please.
Tuition
Camp tuition is $610.00 for the one-week camp. Although the actual cost of camp is over $850.00 per camper, donations, sponsorships and fundraisers enable us to reduce the fee so we can make the experience available to more campers. No one is ever denied admission to camp because of financial status. Campership is available to those in need.
